Blackened Pumpkins

YOU WILL NEED:
Pumpkins
Carving saw
Plaster scraper or spoon
Masking tape
Black floral spray or flat black spray paint
Battery powered light
Needle tool or awl
Waxed paper
Straight pins.

DIRECTIONS:
01. Make a 4 inch round hole in the bottom of your pumpkin with a carving saw; scrape out flesh.

02. Place pumpkin on newspaper in a well ventilated area. Wrap masking tape around stem, and coat pumpkin with black floral spray. Let dry for 30 minutes: remove tape.

03. Use desired stencil, tape to pumpkin.

04. Use needle or poking tool to outline the stencil and cut designs with a saw. (If necesary touch up pumpking with floral spray).

05. Place bettery powered light inside. For a muted glow, affix a sheet of waxed paper behind the cutout with straight pins before adding the light source.

My notes: You can carve the pumpkin from the top or bottom, I couldn't find any black floral spray so what I did was:
01. Carved like normal, used a stencil, place a white piece of paper pinned to the inside of the pumpkin.

02. Place the pumpkin top back on the pumpkin, lay out newspaper and spray your pumpkin with flat or gloss black spray paint. Remove pumpkin top, let dry. Even if spray paint gets on the inside of the stenciled area, it still looks great! If not enough light shines through certain areas you can use your tools to make addtional adjustments. Remove paper from inside, add a candle and watch them glow!
